Dr Ayesha Afzal, Assistant Professor, Economics Department at the Lahore School of Economics, received a Visiting Fellowship at the University of Oxford where she spent the Spring 2018 semester.

Dr. Afzal directly worked with Dr Matthew Mc Cartney, Director, South Asian Studies, who is mentoring her research on Politics of Service Delivery in Pakistan and Comparative study on poverty in South Asia. During the course of her fellowship, Dr Afzal had the opportunity to attend lectures and interact with esteemed global researchers in areas of economics and finance. Dr Hassan Abbas, Professor and Chair of the Department of Regional and Analytical Studies National Defense University, Washington, DC; Dr. Avinash Paliwal, Lecturer in Diplomacy and Public Policy, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London; Dr Kate Sullivan, Associate Professor in the International Relations of South Asia at University of Oxford, are among the many with whom she had the opportunity to share and discuss her own and the Lahore School of Economics' research interests. Dr Afzal has also attended workshops and lectures on Block chain Technology at the Said School of Business and Oxford Internet Institute. She had the honor of learning about this cutting edge technology from global experts in the field like Professor Sandy Pentland, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, Toshiba Professor, Media Lab Entrepreneurship Program Director, MIT and Vili Lehdonvirta, Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow, Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. She also attended sessions on law and regulation of Cryptocurrencies conducted by Dr Michèle Finck, Senior Research Fellow, Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Lecturer in EU Law, Keble College, University of Oxford. During her fellowship, Dr Afzal has become an active member at the Pakistan Society at the University of Oxford and has participated in numerous events promoting discussion on social, political and economic challenges faced by Pakistan. Dr Afzal completes her fellowship on August 31st, 2018.
