Welcome to Department of Economics

The Department of Economics of the Lahore School of Economics is an internationally recognized center for excellence in teaching and research. Our graduates regularly receive prestigious scholarships including the Fulbright and Commonwealth scholarships as well as acceptances into highly ranked graduate programs for further study. Our faculty continue to publish in top journals including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, American Economic Review, World Development, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, World Bank Economic Review, Research Policy, Economic Journal, and Economic Inquiry.


Our Research Centres

The Lahore School of Economics has three Research Centers: The Centre for Research in Economics & Business (CREB), Graduate Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) and Innovation and Technology Centre (ITC). The Lahore School has an annual conference on the Management of Pakistan’s Economy attended by leading International and Pakistani Economists. The Department of Economics also publishes issues of its biannual Journal, Lahore Journal of Economics (LJE).

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, the Department's MPhil and PhD, programs are being recognized locally and internationally with a significant number of our students getting foreign scholarships for further academic work, a growing number of students being recruited by international development institutions and the private sector and a significant number of international publications.

To produce cutting edge research in the area of economics and other related fields which utilizes advanced theories, principles and analytical techniques to address key issues in economics, business, and public policy.
